“So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the free woman.” Gal 4:31

Imagine a religion that teaches that there are only three ways to deal with unbelievers: 1) They must renounce their present religion and convert, or 2) they must submit themselves to a taxation system that is really a means of systematic humiliation, or 3) the unbeliever must be killed in order to remove resistance to the religion you wish to impose. Those are the three tenets Islam teaches about the imposition of Islam around the world.

Some of you who read this will say that this is surely an overstatement. It is not. The goal of Islam is world domination. The goal is that the whole world would be under Islamic (Shari a) Law. These three tenets are the means to achieve that end. This is one example of what Paul means by the phrase “children of a bondwoman”.

We are not children of the bondwoman but of the free woman. Paul wants us to rejoice in the freedom we have in Christ.

• Freedom of forgiven sins
• Freedom of having our past covered by the blood of Christ and the memory of things regretted removed from God’s memory
• Freedom to share God’s love
• Freedom to love those who persecute you
• Freedom to pray for those who mean evil toward you
• Freedom to know that your future is absolutely secure

Dear Lord, thank you that we are children of the free woman. Let us live in the freedom of your Spirit. Amen.
